Is an EV cheaper than a hybrid in Thailand? — รถ EV หรือไฮบริด คุ้มกว่ากัน
On energy alone, usually yes. Home off-peak charging works out near 0.4–0.7 baht per kilometre against roughly 1.5–2.2 baht for a hybrid returning 20 km/L. Over five years, though, the total is normally decided by depreciation rather than electricity. A 2023 Chinese BEV can now ask 40–55% of its original ticket, while a Toyota hybrid still asks around 79% of its current new price after one to two years. Run both resale scenarios above before you decide.
How much does home charging change the result?
More than any other single input. Residential TOU off-peak electricity is about ฿2.9951/kWh all-in, the standard residential marginal rate about ฿4.9049, and public DC fast charging runs roughly ฿5–9/kWh depending on network, power band and time of day. Switching the charging situation from mostly home to mostly public can more than double the EV's energy cost.
What if I live in a condo? — ชาร์จคอนโด ทำยังไง
Choose the condo / shared charging option. Shared building chargers are commonly billed at roughly ฿4–5/kWh plus a ฿1–3 juristic-person markup, and the free wallbox bundled with many EV campaigns is worth nothing if the building will not let you install one. In that scenario the calculator sets the home charger cost to zero and uses a higher blended electricity price — which is the honest version, not the brochure version.
Why does depreciation matter? — ขายต่อยากไหม ราคาตกไหม
Because it is usually the largest single line in the whole comparison. A car that loses ฿350,000–450,000 of value in three years can wipe out a decade of fuel savings. That is why this tool reports economic ownership cost — depreciation plus running costs — and why it never adds the purchase price and depreciation together. Doing that would count the same capital twice and make every result meaningless.
Are public chargers still cheaper than petrol?
Usually, but by much less than home charging. A compact EV using 16 kWh/100 km at ฿7/kWh costs about ฿1.12 per kilometre. A hybrid at 20 km/L on E20 near ฿31/litre costs about ฿1.55. On a fully public charging profile the EV's running-cost lead narrows to something depreciation can easily reverse.
Which has better resale value? — ขายต่อได้ราคาไหม
On the asking-price evidence available at the cutoff: Toyota and Honda hybrids hold value best; Tesla sits in the middle; BYD and MG volume BEVs show the weakest demonstrated retention; and newer Chinese brands — Deepal, Jaecoo, Aion, XPeng — have used markets too thin to judge, which is why they carry a visible high-uncertainty flag. These are asking prices on marketplaces, not completed sales, and a dealer's trade-in bid is normally lower than any of them.
Does the calculator include EV3.5?
It does not subtract it again, deliberately. EV3.5 support — ฿50,000 for packs of 50 kWh or more, ฿25,000 for 10–50 kWh packs — is normally already inside the advertised Thai retail price. Subtracting it a second time would understate what the EV really costs you. Only add it as a separate benefit if a dated dealer quotation shows it outside the advertised net price.
Are the resale values guaranteed?
No. They are scenarios, not forecasts and not appraisals. No adjustment has been made for mileage, condition, colour, finance status, seller type or how long a listing has been sitting. The conservative case assumes another round of new-EV price cuts or an import-tax shock; the optimistic case assumes neither. Change the retained-value percentage in the advanced panel to whatever you actually believe — it is right there, on purpose.
What about Class 1 insurance? — ค่าประกันแพงไหม
EV Class 1 premiums typically run 10–30% above a comparable petrol or hybrid car, and the first-year free policy that comes with many campaigns simply defers the cost to month 13. Tesla is a documented outlier, with quotes spanning ฿20,000–75,000 depending on model year and workshop type. The insurance defaults here are percent-of-price analyst ranges, not national averages — replace them with your own quote.
