BYD Sealion 7 vs Deepal S07: is the cheaper one the better deal?

Two Chinese electric SUVs, both imported to Thailand, both with a free home charger in October offers. The Deepal looks ฿100,000 cheaper, but only during a one-month campaign. Here is what each one actually gives you, and what we could not verify.

from ฿1,199,900
three variants, RWD or AWD
Deepal New S07
฿1,099,000
October campaign (reference ฿1,219,000)

The short answer

  • Lowest price right now: the Deepal New S07 at ฿1,099,000. Its reference price is ฿1,219,000, which is actually ฿19,100 above the Sealion 7 Premium. The saving depends on the October campaign.
  • Bigger battery, more power, longer vehicle warranty, AWD option: the Sealion 7. The Premium has a 82.5 kWh battery against the S07's 68.8 kWh, and the Performance and Ultimate add all-wheel drive.
  • Where it is closer than it looks: both include a home charger with installation in October offers, and the S07 claims fast DC charging (30–80% in 15 minutes, a manufacturer claim).
  • What nobody can tell you yet: a fair head-to-head efficiency test, resale value, and parts and repair times. We found no controlled Thai comparison, and we say so below.

Side-by-side specs (Thai-market versions)

We compare the current Deepal New S07 (68.8 kWh LFP) against all three Sealion 7 variants. Older S07 versions (66.8 kWh and 79.97 kWh NMC) were sold earlier at ฿1,399,000 and ฿1,499,000; we could not confirm remaining new stock, so they are not compared here.

*Campaign prices: BYD (Rêver) 2 October 2026; Deepal (Changan) campaign valid 1–31 October 2026. Sealion 7 power, battery, range and AC figures were checked on Rêver's Thai model page. Deepal figures come from Changan's leaflet and Thai launch reports and were not all re-checked on the manufacturer site. Range is NEDC, which is generous; see the efficiency section. "Reported" means a media figure, not a manufacturer-confirmed one.

What the price gap really buys

Sealion 7 Premium → Deepal New S07
− ฿100,900 (October only)
  • You give up: 13.7 kWh of battery (68.8 vs 82.5), about 82 km of NEDC range (485 vs 567), about 55 PS, and one year plus 30,000 km of vehicle warranty
  • You give up: AC speed on paper (about 7 kW reported vs 11 kW)
  • You gain: 8 years of roadside assistance (vs 5), a large frunk (125 L reported), a swivelling 15.6-inch screen, AR-HUD and a claimed faster DC charge
  • Home charger and installation are included in both offers; the allowance covers 15 m of work for Deepal and 10 m for BYD
A real saving if you drive mostly in and around town. The gap closes if Changan ends the campaign, because the reference price is higher than the Sealion Premium.
Sealion 7 Premium → Performance or Ultimate
+ ฿100,000 / + ฿150,000
  • Performance: all-wheel drive, 390 kW, 4.5 s to 100 km/h, same 82.5 kWh battery (NEDC range drops to 542 km), about 115 kg heavier
  • Ultimate: adds a 91.3 kWh battery, 600 km NEDC, 230 kW DC peak and a 520 L boot; 800V architecture is reported but not confirmed by a Thai primary source
  • Ultimate's charger and installation is a ฿10,000 purchase option, not free
AWD and the larger battery matter most for hilly northern routes and frequent long trips. For daily city use, the extra power is mostly bragging rights.
Prices here are time-limited. BYD's Premium appeared at ฿1,099,900 for just 3–4 October 2026, a flash promotion that has ended. Deepal's ฿1,099,000 is valid only for the October campaign (purchase and delivery rules apply). Get a dated written quotation before you decide.

Charging at home and on the road

At home, the car sets the limit, not the wallbox. The Sealion 7 accepts 11 kW AC, but only if your house supplies it (single-phase homes top out around 7 kW). The S07's AC limit is reported at about 7 kW, with another catalogue listing 6.6 kW, so ask the dealer for it in writing. Either way, a 22 kW wallbox is wasted money. Read our Thailand home charger guide for realistic installed costs of ฿35,000–65,000 if you pay yourself.

On the road, the Sealion Premium and Performance peak at 150 kW and the Ultimate at 230 kW. Changan claims the New S07 can go from 30% to 80% in 15 minutes, with a peak reported at 163 or 167 kW. These are manufacturer claims, and the Sealion Ultimate's own charging window is reported differently in different sources (10–80% in 24 minutes vs 30–80%). We could not verify real charging times under Thai heat for any of them.

Real-world efficiency: no fair winner yet

TestResultWhy it can't be compared
Sealion 7 AWD Performance (Clubza, Dec 2024)16.8 city / 20.9 highway / 18.8 combined kWh per 100 kmDashboard readings, earlier model year
Original S07, 66.8 kWh NMC (Headlightmag, Mar 2024)about 23.3 kWh per 100 km at 110 km/h, A/C onDifferent battery generation; measured at the charger
New S07 LFP (Sanook, Jan 2026)about 300 km driven hard, a suggested 400 km if restrainedRoad-test observation, not a controlled full-depletion run
Treat all NEDC range figures as best case. We found no Thai test that measures the New S07 and the MY2026 Sealion 7 the same way. Do not use the figures above to declare an efficiency winner.

Ownership: service, resale and known issues

Service network. BYD's official locator shows 158 results, including North Star in Mahidol and Sansai (Chiang Mai) and outlets in Chiang Rai. Changan lists Sangchai and Charoen Auto in Chiang Mai, plus Chiang Rai and Lampang dealers, and its 2026 plan targets 100 locations across 60 provinces; whether that has been reached is unverified. Changan also announced a battery and e-drive service centre with CATL's service arm in July 2026. We found no parts-availability or repair-time data for either brand, so any claim that one is better supported is unverified.

Resale. We found a single 2025 Sealion 7 AWD Performance with 70–75,000 km asking ฿947,000 (One2car, Sept 2026) and a 2024 original S07 at ฿699,000. Those are asking prices for different cars, so they do not show a depreciation rate. Prices for both brands have moved sharply in Thailand, so treat any resale forecast with caution.

Reported problems. Individual owners have reported a steering pull on an early S07, a broken interior door handle and parts-cost dispute on a Sealion 7, and a Sealion battery fault after water exposure that was later approved under warranty. These are single reports, not proof of how common the faults are. The New S07's suspension was re-tuned for Thailand and one reviewer found the ride improved but the steering too light at speed. We found no model-specific official recall for either car, but that is not the same as confirmed clearance; ask the dealer to check your VIN.

Which one should you buy?

Best value

Deepal New S07

฿1,099,000 (Oct campaign)
  • Mostly city and regional driving, family of four or fewer
  • You want the lowest price with a free home charger
  • You are comfortable with a younger brand and a 5-year vehicle warranty
  • Not for you if you need AWD or a very large battery
Safer ownership bet

BYD Sealion 7 Premium

฿1,199,900
  • You want the bigger battery and longer vehicle warranty
  • You value a larger dealer network, including in the north
  • You want 11 kW AC charging if your home supports it
  • Costs about ฿100,900 more than the Deepal this month
Worth it for some

Sealion 7 AWD Performance / Ultimate

฿1,299,900 / ฿1,349,900
  • Hilly northern roads or frequent long trips
  • You want AWD and strong performance
  • Ultimate adds the largest battery and 230 kW DC charging
  • Heavier cars: expect higher insurance and tyre costs
Try this before you sign: ask each dealer for the written AC charging limit, the exact warranty terms (including what "lifetime" covers and its conditions), the written charger-installation scope, and a VIN recall check. Then compare the dated quotations, not the headlines.

FAQ

Is the Deepal S07 cheaper than the BYD Sealion 7 in Thailand?
During Changan's October 2026 campaign, yes: ฿1,099,000 against ฿1,199,900 for the Sealion 7 Premium. The S07's reference price is ฿1,219,000, so the saving only lasts while the campaign does.
Does the Deepal S07 come with all-wheel drive in Thailand?
The current Thai New S07 listing we examined is rear-wheel drive only. Pro, Max and range-extender versions are not confirmed as Thai retail variants. The Sealion 7 offers RWD and two AWD versions.
Which has the longer warranty?
As advertised in October 2026: Sealion 7 six years or 150,000 km, New S07 five years or 120,000 km. Both list eight years or 160,000 km on the battery. Some earlier BYD launch reports said eight years for the vehicle, so confirm the current contract.
Do these prices include the EV 3.5 subsidy?
We could not verify how the subsidy is reflected in either price. Both cars are imported, and the scheme ties importers to local-production obligations. Ask the dealer for an itemised quotation, and see our Thailand EV incentives guide and the EV 3.5 and import-duty guide.
Can a 22 kW home charger charge either car faster?
No. The Sealion 7 accepts 11 kW AC and the S07's limit is reported around 7 kW. See the home charger guide.

Disclaimer: Prices, campaigns and specifications change frequently in Thailand, sometimes mid-month, and differ between dealers. Figures here are advertised prices, not quotations, and Deepal and BYD offers carry purchase and delivery conditions. This is an editorial comparison, not a road test.
